Hosting Resources
As you already know, hosting is a computer located on the hosting provider's premises. Our website is a program that runs on this computer, responding to user requests.
Being a program, our website consumes the resources of this computer. Here is a list of the main resources:
- hard disk space
- RAM (Random Access Memory)
- CPU time
- internet channel bandwidth
Obviously, hosting is not unlimited and has a finite amount of resources. Especially since they have to be divided among many websites.
And there is a big difference here between having a simple landing page or a site with gigabytes of images or videos.
Therefore, hosting providers either significantly limit the resources allocated to one website, or charge for the consumed resources on the principle of the more you consume - the more you pay.
What exactly you pay for depends on your type of hosting. We will analyze this in more detail in the following lessons.
List the main resources that our website consumes on the hosting.
