Domain Levels
Domains are classified into different levels depending on the number of dots within the full domain name.
If a domain has one dot, for example,
site.com, then
this is a second level domain.
If a domain has two dots, for example,
blog.site.com, then
this is a third level domain
or, in other words, a subdomain.
The question arises, where is the
first level domain? This refers to
the actual domain zone itself,
in our case .com.
Domains can also be of higher levels: fourth, fifth, but this is extremely rare.
