Ada Wren

1920–1997

Ada Wren started in halls that still sold programmes with a pencil. She played clerks who kept one extra key. Directors asked her to smile more; she learned to let the key do the smiling. The late work is almost silent. She said a pause is a costume if you wear it long enough.
